My story

Building businesses. Exploring what comes next.

I’m Kiran Nambiar, Co-founder & CEO of MyFi, and an entrepreneur working at the intersection of AI, design and human interaction. My work spans different problems, with a focus today on finance and a broader passion for what AI makes possible.

Preparing to build something of my own

The intention to return to India and start my own business was there from the beginning. My years in large financial institutions were a way to gain the experience to make that move.

I began at Merrill Lynch in London in 2007, before its acquisition by Bank of America. In 2010, I moved to Morgan Stanley in London, then to its New York offices in late 2011.

Before leaving Morgan Stanley, I headed technology for the equity derivatives platform for structured products, managing teams across New York, London, Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tokyo. That experience of building technology at scale and leading geographically distributed teams was preparation for the business I wanted to build back in India.

From 1st Main to MyFi

In 2017, I left banking to co-found 1st Main with Kinnari Thakker. We built a digital product agency that took ideas all the way to live products used by hundreds of thousands of people. Starting with a team of three, we bootstrapped it into a profitable business without external funding.

Our clients included WeWork India, Zoya, Marg Publication and Jify, the fintech later acquired by Moneyview, among others. The work brought design and engineering together around the practical challenge of making an idea useful in people’s lives.

TIFIN became a client in May 2021 and acquired 1st Main in February 2022. That relationship opened the next chapter: in 2024, I co-founded MyFi with Kinnari, where I now serve as CEO. The ambition is to bring AI and autonomous experiences to financial guidance, making financial intelligence easier to access, understand and use.

Beyond yesterday’s limits

Finance is where much of this work takes shape today. The curiosity extends to many other problems: how people learn, make decisions and interact with technology.

AI keeps changing what is possible, while our imagination often remains shaped by what used to be difficult, expensive or out of reach. Part of the work is noticing those inherited assumptions and asking which constraints still apply.

Imagination, with responsibility

Responsible AI is central to that exploration. How a system reaches an outcome matters: the information it uses, the permissions it has, and whether people can understand, question and stop its actions. There is room to build with ambition while testing carefully and slowing down where safeguards have not caught up.
